What Is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure designed to lighten the color of your teeth by removing stains and discoloration. Professional treatments use safe, effective whitening gels to deliver noticeable and long-lasting results.

The Process:

In-Office Zoom! Whitening:

  1. Consultation: We’ll evaluate your oral health and discusses your whitening goals.

  2. Preparation: A protective barrier is applied to your gums to shield them during treatment.

  3. Application of Whitening Gel: A professional-strength gel is applied to your teeth and activated with a special Zoom! light, breaking down deep stains.

  4. Repeat Applications: The process is repeated in short intervals (15-20 minutes) for up to three sessions during a single appointment, with results visible immediately after the session.

  5. Post-Treatment Care: Your teeth are cleaned, and you’ll receive instructions to maintain your brighter smile.

Take-Home Sonicare Whitening Kit:

  1. Consultation: We’ll evaluate your oral health and discusses your whitening goals. You can then purchase your take-home kit at our office.

  2. Whiten teeth at home: The kit includes trays that mold to fit your teeth, and gel that is dispensed into the trays using a dual syringe applicator that comes with 3 doses. An indicator on the side helps you use the right amount. Use the kit as directed over several days to gradually achieve a brighter smile. Expect first results in just 3 days. Full results after 9 days.

Indications:

  • Yellowed or stained teeth from coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking

  • Discoloration due to aging or certain medications

  • Patients looking for a brighter, more youthful smile

Contraindications:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals

  • Severe tooth sensitivity or gum disease

  • Stains caused by structural issues (e.g., tetracycline stains)

The Problem Teeth Whitening Solves:

Teeth whitening removes surface and deep stains, enhancing the overall appearance of your smile and boosting confidence.

Pros:

  • In-office treatment is clinically proven to whiten up to 8 shades in one visit, and the take-home kit can whiten your smile up to 5 shades.

  • Immediate results with in-office treatment

  • Convenient take-home option

  • Non-invasive and safe when performed professionally

Cons:

  • Temporary tooth sensitivity (manageable with desensitizing products)

  • May require touch-ups to maintain results over time

  • Not effective on crowns, veneers, or fillings
